Chione 〔(Khione ), on Theoi〕 (from Greek χιών - ''chiōn'', "snow"〔(χιών ), Henry George Liddell, Robert Scott, ''A Greek-English Lexicon'', on Perseus〕), in ancient Greek religion, is the nymph or minor goddess of snow. She is the daughter of Boreas, the North Wind, and Oreithyia. Chione is the mother of Poseidon's son Eumolpus.〔Hyginus, ''Fabulae'', 157〕 Her siblings included Zetes, Calaides and Phineus's wife, Cleopatra.〔Pseudo-Apollodorus, ''Bibliotheca'' 3. 15. 2〕 ==Popular culture== Chione (spelled as Khione) is an antagonist in Rick Riordan's ''The Lost Hero'', part of ''The Heroes of Olympus'' series. She often tries to kill the seven with her powers over ice and snow. She resides in Quebec with Boreas and her brothers Zethes and Calais. She later appears in "House of Hades", trying to thwart the seven's plans to reach Epirus and close the Doors of Death, only to be stopped by Piper McLean. However, though, Khione and her brothers did send ''Leo Valdez'' to ''Calypsos island, where they thought he would never be able to leave.
